NHL Top Plays and Value Options: Tuesday, March 17, 2015

I don’t know if you have been following along with the NHL general manager’s meetings, but apparently, the NHL is considering changing the overtime format a bit. The GM’s want to see some sort of 3-on-3 overtime format, and I could not agree more. I think they might miss the mark a bit by not eliminating the shootout, but let’s take it one step at a time here.

What does that mean for us? More goals! We love more goals because that means higher fantasy scores for all you fanatics out there.

In the meantime, we have to figure out how to win right now. So buckle your chinstraps and let’s dig into some of my favorite plays tonight at Star Fantasy Leagues!

Top G: Devan Dubnyk / MIN-G / $19,992

The Predators are reeling right now, so this is a perfect time to take advantage of them. Minnesota is not reeling right now, so this is a perfect time to take advantage of them. Yep.

Value G: Niklas Svedberg / BOS-G / $16,047

There are actually a few value options at goalie tonight, but Svedberg gives you the best chance at a goose egg in my opinion. The Sabres stink and the Bruins are cruising.

Top LW: Daniel Sedin / VAN-LW / $11,684

Despite the fact that he hasn’t gotten on the score sheet in the past few games, the shots are there. Eventually they will fall and with the Flyers playing as poorly as they are, this could be a good night for that to happen.

Value LW: Jonathan Huberdeau / FLA-LW / $8,852

With Dustin Tokarski in net, I have a feeling the Panthers will find a way to score. Huberdeau has been playing better recently and with Jaromir Jagr shifting to his power play unit, anything is possible.

Top RW: Vladimir Tarasenko / STL-RW / $15,478

Calgary is certainly playing well recently, but not because of their goaltending. Jonas Hiller hasn’t impressed me lately and we all know what Tarasenko is capable of.

Value RW: Chris Stewart / MIN-RW / $7,175

He has been getting the ice time with the second line and, like I said before, Nashville is reeling badly right now. Stewart brings a physical presence to the top six for Minnesota and can still bury the biscuit.

Top C: Jonathan Toews / CHI-C / $12,429

I think the Blackhawks have broken out of their funk after last game. Toews is the leader and now that Patrick Sharp is back on the first line, I think there will be plenty of goals scored.

Value C: Brandon Sutter / PIT-C / $7,785

With Malkin and Hornqvist out, Sutter and Spaling get the nods. Sutter is the preferred option as his speed and hands make him a threat to break into the top six as it is. Tough matchup, but the opportunities are there.

Top D: P.K. Subban / MON-D / $10,918

The Panthers are going to be stuck with Dan Ellis for at least one more start. The Habs may be struggling, but Subban is still a point scorer. He won’t be held off the score sheet very often.

Value D: Alexander Edler / VAN-D / $7,550

He doesn’t shoot as much as you would like him to but Edler is the top option defensively for the Canucks right now. He gets his time on the first power play unit so an assist is always a possibility. Who knows? Maybe he will wind up finding the back of the net too.

There you have it my friends. Hopefully you will be able to fit a couple of these guys into your lineups tonight. Craft your best lineup tonight at www.StarFantasyLeagues.com, where you can win your share of thousands in guaranteed prize pools every week!
