Keep Yourself Clean

The skin sweats to regulate temperature and excrete waste. When the sweat dries on the skin, it may produce an odor. Therefore, according to one's level of activity and lifestyle, regular baths are advisable.

Ensure you take a bath daily to wash away sweat and eliminate some bacteria from the skin. Sweat is odorless, but after mixing with bacteria which resides on the skin, it may stink.

Thorough cleaning of the body, especially on areas prone to sweating such as armpits, is the first step towards becoming a good smelling athlete.

Make Use of Steam Baths and Saunas

It is essential for the body to sweat and to get rid of toxins. The sauna helps in getting rid of toxins as it helps the body sweat. Therefore, it opens your pores and enables the toxins to get out through the skin.

Going for saunas or steam baths at least once a week will help detoxify your body, thus improving one's natural scent.

Use Antibacterial Soap

If you haven't been showering with antibacterial soap, make a change. Antibacterial soap will get rid of bacteria which is responsible for bad odor.

Dry Your Body Properly

After showering, it is vital to dry yourself thoroughly. Pay close attention to body parts which sweat a lot. Dry skin makes it difficult for odor-causing bacteria to breed on.

Make Use of Perfumes or Colognes

After showering and toweling off, use a strong antiperspirant on your armpits. Antiperspirants contain aluminum chloride which keeps sweat at bay. For best results, use them twice a day – in the morning and evening.

Unless you have medical issues, you barely need a prescription to use cologne. When shopping, opt for one that has higher strength. Consult your doctor if you need further assistance.

Ensure Your Clothes Are Always Clean

Make a habit of changing clothes after sweating heavily. Fresh clothes will help prevent body odor. Sensitive clothes that must always be fresh include t-shirts and socks.

If your feet sweat, consider putting the deodorant powder into your shoes. Also, regularly replacing insoles will help keep your feet smelling fresh. When possible, go barefoot.

Avoid Some Drinks and Foods

Food and drinks may affect your body odor. Spicy foods tend to make one sweat more, which may lead to body odor. When cooking, the aroma of certain foods, for instance, that of onions, may be carried along with your sweat.

Also, avoid smoking since the tobacco smell might get into your pores, causing your sweat to smell. Cut out on caffeinated drinks and alcohol too since these drinks tend to make one sweat more.

With the above tips, you will no longer have that bad odor after your runs. Remember to use antibacterial soap while bathing and toweling off properly after your bath. Check what you eat and occasionally go for saunas.
